Who's Who at Famous Fishing

Our guides and instructors are among the best in the world and are picked not only for their knowledge and experience, but also for their ability to communicate effectively. All of them hold a minimum qualification of GAIA (Game Angling Instructors' Association) Level 2, are fully insured and have received First Aid and Child Protection training.

William Daniel

City financier turned master flyfisher, William founded Famous Fishing in 1995, after entertaining his fund manager clients on the banks of the chalk streams. Deeply passionate not just about flyfishing but also about the environment, he has travelled the world chasing trout, salmon and multiple saltwater species. He regularly organises overseas trips to the ultimate destinations, Iceland being one of his favourites. Wlliam is a superb raconteur and hugely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the chalk streams.

Nick Lawrence

Nick has been guiding and teaching at Famous Fishing for 12 years now and, quietly knowledgeable and patient, is popular with both novice and experienced flyfishers. In addition to guiding, Nick is in charge of the day to day management of our beats and is an expert on wild trout habitat and knows all our beats intimately.

Trevor Hayman

Tax accountant turned trout bum, Trevor holds the top AAPGAI Masters qualification and is one of our most popular guides. Nothing is too much trouble for him and he will do his utmost to make your day a success.   A natural communicator, he will have you casting perfect loops in no time.  A regular performer at fly casting demonstrations all over the country, he always has a rod in his hand.  When he's not guiding or teaching, he is very likely to be fishing!

Oli Shuldham

Oli's "other" job is as a tree surgeon so when he is not guiding he is climbing trees or waist deep with his chainsaw helping us with riverwork so he knows all our beats thorughly.   He has guided clients in Iceland for many years and is equally at home guiding trout or salmon.

Graham Waterton

After a successful career in property, Graham took early retirement from his job as a partner at Strutt and Parker in order to pursue his real passion full time - fly fishing and teaching others.  His charm and enthusiasm is endless, and he is guaranteed to look after you well.

Kevin Styles

Kevin's great passion outside teaching is sea trout, and over the years he has lured some huge fish from the Avon and Frome.  An AAPGAI  qualified fly fishing instructor, fishing and teaching are in his blood.  If you are interested in learning advanced casts Kevin will be delighted to explain (and demonstrate) these to you.

Jon Penny

Jon's first career was as a riverkeeper on the Avon. His gentle “riverside” manner and sense of humour comes from his years as a successful osteopath. Fully qualified as a fly fishing instructor he now has more time for his real love in life, which is imparting his great fishing knowledge to guests.

Ben Bangham

Ben's quiet demeanour belies his massively competitive spirit.  There are nor many flyfishing competitons he has not won.  His credits include National Rivers Champion and Home International Champion and he is a regular in the England squad.  Even on a tough day he will find something in his fly box that will get you a trout!

Will Templer

Fishing and shooting are deeply engrained in Will's psyche.  A true countryman, Will has been fishing and guiding on the chalk streams for many years - he will always do his utmost to find fish for clients and has an uncanny ability ot make them eat one of his secret flies!
