The River Anton is a short, medium sized chalk stream that runs through the town of Andover before joining the Test just downstream of the famous Mayfly pub. It oozes class, especially in its lower reaches, and although it is not as well-known as the Test – perhaps because there is comparatively so little of it available to the visitor – many regular rods will tell you that they prefer it to anything on the main river. The Anton is known for its prolific fly life and holds some very large wild brown trout. It is possibly the best of all the chalk streams for large grayling, with 2lb fish almost commonplace.
