- Famous Fishing Overseas
The River Kennet is unusual in that it is a major chalk stream that does not flow north to south as do the Test, Itchen and Avon, but west to east, joining the river Thames at Reading. The best trout fishing is found between Marlborough and Newbury, but there are few places where fishing of any quality can be bought by the day, with the best water controlled by private syndicates. The Kennet is, like the Avon, a mixture of chalk and freestone stream and may colour after heavy rain. After the mayfly hatch, which can run on into the middle of June here, the best fishing tends to be in the evenings.
